As organizers of the only gay and lesbian regatta in this country, we are proud to say that each year this regatta has been run we have been able to attract more sailors to the event, so thanks to all of the past organizers of this Regatta...we all owe a lot to each of you for your past efforts. This year, with the generous and enthusiastic support of Gilbert Baker, the Stonewall Sails Regatta is an official event of Heritage of Pride's Gay Pride Week! This year we felt that it was very important for KSA to become a greater part of Gay Pride Week and the organizers have responded with great enthusiasm for both Stonewall Sails and KSA's Parade of Sail. We hope each and every member of KSA can contribute in some way to help make each event a success. Gilbert Baker has made arrangements for several people from Heritage of Pride as well as several local political leaders to attend Stonewall Sails Regatta. If anyone is willing to commit to being the spectator boat, we would be extremely grateful. We need to provide a platform for the photographers and guests to view the race. If anyone is interested, please contact us so arrangements can be made. There will be an Awards Ceremony and Party after the Regatta at Newport Landing Marina. If you are unable to race in the Regatta, please join us for a great after race party! You may have read the emails from Karen Balint regarding the availability of slips for those of you wishing to arrive by boat. Some of us did this last year and it worked out very well. If we have enough boats, we can move the party to the marina later in the evening. The regatta will be held on Friday, June 23rd marking the beginning of New York City's Pride Weekend. The regatta will again be held in conjunction with True North Sailing School, in Jersey City, NJ. The race course will be in the Upper Bay of New York Harbor, in view of the Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan. We are planning a Race Clinic prior to the event, to be hosted at True North. Full details of the race and how it will be organized are available in the Stonewall Sails 2006 Notice of Race. Registration is currently underway. We encourage everyone to register as soon as possible, as we have a limited number of boats. We are accepting entries from around the globe so there should be a good mix of participants.
All forms and funds must be received no later than May 31st, 2006. All questions should be directed to: Stonewall Sails Knickerbocker Sailing Association, Inc. PO Box 326 New York, NY 10011-0326 |
