Notice of Race
Invitation The Knickerbocker Sailing Association (KSA) invites you to participate in Stonewall Sails - New York's Sixth Gay Pride Regatta. The organizing authority for the regatta is True North Sailing School. Stonewall Sails Regatta. The regatta will be held around noon. As in the past, Rick Van Loon of True North Sailing will be hosting the Regatta at the Newport Marina in Jersey City, NJ. The regatta will be sailed in J-24's provided by True North. We need to have a minimum of 5 skippers and crew to run the races and we hope to fill all 7 available boats with each boat having a crew of 3 or 4 people. The cost for each boat is $500.00 in addition to a $600.00 damage deposit. The damage deposit will be returned promptly after the race. Rules The regatta will be governed by the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the J/24 Class Rules (www.j24class.org/usa/rules), and the Sailing Instructions. Site Newport Marina, 500 Washington Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07310. Racing will take place in the vicinity of the Statue of Liberty, on the waters of The Upper Bay of New York Harbor, New York City, NY. Eligibility Registration is open to teams of three or four individuals. Yachts will be provided by Newport Sailing on a first-come, first-served basis. This regatta is open to all J/24 Class yachts as defined by the J/24 Class Rules. Entrants must have paid all registration and event fees, and completed Registration requirements before becoming official competitors. Skipper and crew must weigh 1000 lbs. (455 kgs) or less. Skippers must provide information on their sailing and racing experience with their Registration and be approved by the Race Committee. Individuals wishing to be placed on a team should fill out the Crew Application Form. Participants are not considered registered until they are associated with a team. Participants Standard PFD's / life jacket are provided for each participant, however,
it is recommend bringing your own as it should be more comfortable. Schedule The itinerary for Race Day is as follows: 10AM: Morning Registration and Breakfast 11AM: Skipper and Crew Meeting (Mandatory) at True North Sailing School in Jersey City, NJ. For directions, please go to True North Sailing School 12.30PM: Start of Race #1. We will attempt to run four to five races depending on weather conditions. 4PM: Racing will end and all boats will return to Newport Marina. 5PM: Awards Ceremony at True North Sailing School 7PM: Party after the Regatta at Newport Landing Marina. If you are unable to race in the Regatta, please join us for a great after race party. Bring snacks, mixers, a bottle of whatever you fancy, and a smile! Courses Courses will be windward-leeward as described in the Sailing Instructions. Scoring The Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A of the racing rules, will apply. Five (5) races are scheduled, of which one (1) race shall be completed to constitute a series. If more than five (5) races are completed, one will count as a throwaway in calculating each team's final score. Awards Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers. Additional awards may be made at the discretion of the Race Committee. Registration All entrants MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE using the links on the Stonewall Sails Registration page. On-site registration will NOT be permitted. It is expected that the cost of the boats will be shared amongst the skippers and their crews. Crew can expect their costs for the boat to be about $125. Skippers are required to send a check totalling $1,100, made out to
True North Sailing School, which will cover the cost of the boats and
a $600 refundable security deposit. They are also required to send a separate
check for, payable to KSA, covering their registration fee. Benefits Your entry fee is used to offset some of the costs of the regatta, however, for your $50 you get a Stonewall Sails Regatta T-Shirt (or other fabulous garment!), a continental breakfast, pizza after the event and awards for the crews of the boats with the 3 lowest racing scores. KSA polo shirts (purple shirts with white embroidery!) will be available for a cost of $30.00 each. Due to the cost of these embroidered polo shirts, please pre-order these shirts by contacting us with your shirt size and the quantity. Sponsorships Like last year, this year several individuals have graciously offered to sponsor boats! Their generosity has made it possible for many more members to participate in this event. If anyone is interested in sponsoring a boat, please contact us.
All forms must be received no later than May 31st, 2007. All practice sessions will be handled directly by True North. The fee for the 4-hour practice sessions is $150 per boat. Fees
